For those of us who have lived in Davis for a while, the influx of new folks to our dear town in September is not a new phenomenon. But for the individuals who have just arrived, or are about to arrive, everything is new. Do you remember when you moved to a new town for the first time or went away to college? Feelings of loneliness and anxiety mingled with hope and excitement are to be expected. Please be on the lookout for new faces as they make their way to Davis UMC, and share with them the opportunities available through Davis UMC and CA House. Brochures and publicity for fall programming at CA House are located in the sanctuary and in informational displays around the church. Remember, new students come in all ages, so if you are not sure if someone is a new student just ask— both youth and folks in their 30s and 40s will most likely be complimented by the statement, “You look like you might be a student!” CA House offers many ways for students to get involved and to be fed spiritually during their time at UCD. Following are events taking place during Welcome Week and the first week of classes. For additional information on small groups, the Multifaith Living Community, service and retreats, please check out our website at www.cahouse.org . |
September 22 at 6 p.m.: Welcome Back Dinner at CA House. CA House welcomes all for a vegetarian, kosher, halal meal where students can connect, re-connect and hear more about offerings and activities for the fall.
September 26: Rev. Kristin Stoneking, CA House Director and Campus Minister preaching, followed by Welcome Brunch in Grace Café after the 11 a.m. service.
September 27 at 6 p.m.: Christian fellowship dinner followed by worship.
CA House--6 townhouses with 34 residents right across the street from campus, interested in the diversity of faith traditions, overcoming divisive misconceptions, and sharing opportunities for personal growth. Our community has included Bahai, Buddhists, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, and uncommitted.
