Nurture & Growth Ministry
Friendly Visitor
The members of the Nurture and Growth Ministry have felt that there is a need for a program of visitation that is less intensive than Stephen Ministry, but more formalized than the casual visits which many people in the congregation make to individuals who have a need for contact with someone in the church.
Therefore we are starting a “Friendly Visitor” program. After a brief training period, volunteers will be available to make calls for concerns such as bereavement, recuperation from illness or surgery, or retirement issues. If you would be interested in the training or want more information, notify Nancy in the church office or call Jean Becket.
Many Possibilities
Are you wondering whether there’s a service you could provide for the church? Here are some possibilities:
1. Arranging baby showers. We don’t have many oft these, but of course they aren’t on a regular basis. If you think you might be interested in this contact Beth Flory or Jean Becket.
2. Beth (a busy person) would also like someone to work with her on her contacts with students. Again, call Beth of Jean.
3. People with audio-visual skills are needed for the Sunday morning services. Contact Andy Burke.
4. As described in the April Crossection, internships are available for learning DVD video production, also on Sunday mornings.
MEALS MINISTRY
Our church family provides meals to people in our congregation who are going through stressful times—new babies, illness, death, etc. This is a great way to provide care and comfort to one another. I have found taking meals very rewarding and I have gotten to know members of the church community that I otherwise might not see. You don’t have to be a fantastic cook. Simple meals are often the best under the circumstances.
This is the way the system works:
- You volunteer to be on an email list to make meals.
- I maintain the list.
- When Eileen, Nancy or someone else in the church is aware that someone needs help, they call or email me and I send an email out to the list.
- If you can help, you offer to make a meal.
- I schedule the meals. I let you know if you are needed—based on your availability and let you know what the dietary issues are—no meat, low salt, etc. I also give you the phone number of the person needing the meal.
- You cook the meal and call the person to set up when you will bring the meal to them.
No one has to make a meal when it is inconvenient. If many offer to serve on this ad hoc mission, few will have to cook often. To become part of this ministry, please, email [hroland@earthlink.net] or call me .
Thank you,
Helen Roland, Meals Ministry
