Reconciling Ministry
Reconciling Ministries Network
From the Reconciling Committee:
This year General Conference (GE) meets in Austin Texas from Wednesday April 23 to Friday May 2nd. The Reconciling Ministry Network will witness for our LGBT brother and sisters who are excluded from full inclusion in the life of our denomination by bans on ordination and statements such as the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching. As part of the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN), we also are called to witness for a Church that is truly “One Family Tree,” the RMN theme for this GE.
We can witness in many ways...
1. Becoming Reconciling United Methodists, individuals who in addition to the stance of our congregation who support the RMN directly with their prayers, gifts and services. Each Sunday beginning March 30th, the Reconciling Committee will provide information, opportunities to sign up and have pins to help you become a Reconciling United Methodist.
2. Provide financial (including frequent flyer miles) and prayer support to help Davis UMC send a delegation from our church to General Conference to witness and help RMN.
3. Attend GE as an active witness working with the RMN from our congregation to inform the delegates regarding full inclusion for LGBT. A Reconciling United Methodist witness is present to General Conference delegates, but never confrontational. If you are interested in attending as a RUM witness from our church, please contact Helen Roland (hroland@earthlink.net or 756-3973 ASAP). We hope to financial support those who attend as our representatives. (See #2).
Next meeting: The next meeting of the Reconciling Congregation Committee will be a potluck brunch on April 19th from 10 am to noon at Helen Roland’s home. All who wish to further this work are welcome.
