Junior and Senior News

Hi everyone! Well it’s getting to be that back to school time of year again, and we’ve got a ton of great stuff lined up for your enjoyment! Make sure to be on the lookout for other youth group events this month that aren’t on this list, as these will probably be the most epic things you’ve ever experienced! Not to brag or anything, but it’s going to be pretty cool this month.

For Sunday School this month, we’ll be highlighting some of the great Bible characters to try to piece together the stories we’ve grown up with into one bigger narrative. This is when all the pieces come together!

Just as a general update on the state of the youth program, the Staff-Parish Relations Committee is working feverishly to find a successor to take the reins of *your* United Methodist Youth Group, and their work will no doubt soon pay off. Until then, the SPRC is still accepting applications, so if you or someone you know wants to give youth group leading a try, be sure to talk to Kim Coontz or Pastor Mantu!

August 31: Sunday School: The biographical side of Jesus. We’ve heard the parables, we’ve heard the Easter and the Nativity stories, but what was Jesus doing between his birth and death?

                6:00-8:00 – Grace Café

Hi everyone! With school approaching, we’re all a little concerned, to say the least, with the steps into middle school, into high school, or even into that one year in our social and academic careers we’ve been dreading. But take hope! We will not change or deviate from our usual scale of epic youth events and Sunday School!

In Sunday School, we’ll cover everything from the end of the world, to the beginnings of the God experience. Grace Café will continue to offer fellowship and many good times.

As promised in my previous e-mails, the 2008 Fall Youth Hike will happen during a more hospitable time of year: right now! And, because this is likely to be my last month as Youth Director, I’d like to formally invite everyone to Woodstock’s Pizza on September 27th for a Farewell Pizza Party!

So, to all the youth out there, remember: when all the rest of your life seems either too boring or too chaotic, remember, the UMCD Youth Group maintains a constant state of awesome 24/7! You know what to do: get involved, and have fun!

September 7: Sunday School: The End of the World. Some say the world will end in fire, some say it will end in ice. (end quote) We’ll try to make sense of the “End Times” references in the New Testament.

6:00-8:00 – Grace Café

September 10: 2:30-5:00 – Smoothies in Grace Café

September 13: 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. – Fall Youth Hike! We’ll be heading to sunny Mt. Diablo for a day hike.

September 14: Sunday School: Experiencing God with your mind. As Methodists, we’re compelled to use our minds in the interpretation of scripture, and our interaction with God, so, as the old saying goes, “What think ye of Christ?”

6:00-8:00 – Grace Café

September 17: 2:30-5:00 – Smoothies in Grace Café

September 21: Sunday School: Experiencing God with your body and soul. In a town like Davis that prizes the use of intellect above all else, it can be easy to get caught up in our own thoughts, so we’ll try a new approach.

 6:00-8:00 – Grace Café

September 24: 2:30-5:00 – Smoothies in Grace Café

September 27: 5:00-8:00 – Farewell Party! This may be my last month as Youth Director, so I’ll be going out with a bang at Woodstock’s Pizza! Everyone’s invited!

September 28: Sunday School: Back to school. What does being a disciple, that is, a student, of Christ mean in today’s world? A look at the expression of religion in a school environment.
