Our DNA:

We are spirit-filled. To us this means that we are loved by God, which moves us to be loving of others. We trust in God’s grace and are inspired to grow closer to God.

We are service and justice oriented. To us this means we share God’s compassion for all who suffer from injustice, respectfully working both to improve their circumstances and to change the underlying injustice. As stewards of all God’s creation, we strive to protect the earth and to help it flourish.

We are welcoming and affirming. To us this means we are welcoming and affirming through words and actions, offering many ways to be a part of God’s community. We listen, accept and support everyone in a non-judgmental way. To complement this effort, we are committed to reaching beyond our comfort zone and to providing a pleasant physical environment.

 

How did we determine that these characteristics make up the DNA of Davis UMC? The people of Davis UMC conducted in-depth interviews with folks in the congregation – newcomers and long-timers, members and non-members – everyone was invited! The interviews asked, among other things, what qualities or characteristics people had experienced in their participation at DUMC. The answers overwhelmingly coalesced around these three qualities: spirit-filled; service & justice oriented; welcoming & affirming.

We embrace this DNA. It’s who we are! We enthusiastically commit ourselves to continually growing and improving, striving to embody these characteristics.
