What is it and why do we use it?
On Sundays (except first Sundays of the month), trained volunteers tell central stories of our faith to the children (3yrs.-5th grade) of the church when they leave the sanctuary. They are given a respectful, structured and developmentally appropriate opportunity to take first steps in interpreting those stories. They learn skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. It is much like teaching how to fish instead of giving a fish.
Here’s a peek at one of the ways this done: Following the storytelling, there is an invitation to reflect. This is done through wondering questions such as, “I wonder what part of the story you liked best? I wonder what part of the story is most important? I wonder what part of the story is about you?”
Your financial gifts provide ongoing training, manipulative materials, art materials and a welcoming environment for the children. Thank you!
